Over more than 20 years as an academic leader and innovator I have helped large research universities develop new knowledge and institutional structures toward improving the quality of human life (Q) on Earth.  Q reflects both the objective state-of-things and the relationship between the state-of-things and our aspirations.

Throughout my career I have thought about institutional structure and role, leadership and management, and about the intellectual roots of sustainability in its many garbs.  I have written some of it down, but in large part I am a practitioner working at the intersection of institutional structures and formal knowledge, and at the boundary between the academy and partners from many sectors of our society.

The pages below are an overview of my work. The Library page contains a selection of my writing and intellectual work.
